New Priest-in-Charge
Wonderful news! Our new Priest-in-Charge of the Four Rivers Benefice, Reverend Enid Pow, was licensed in a special service by Bishop Mike, Bishop of Dunwich, at Wilby Church on Thursday 23rd February 2023.
Revd Enid, whose parishes include Bedfield, Brundish, Cratfield, Laxfield, Monk Soham, Tanningon, Wilby and Worlingworth with Southolt, has recently returned to the UK after her last incumbency as Mission Priest in the Community of Kuujjuaq, The Arctic, Anglican Church of Canada.
The post in the Four Rivers Benefice is a venture between the benefice and Lightwave, Suffolk's fresh expressions church organisation, which means that she will have a specific mission focus to her ministry here. Revd Enid is very much looking forward to meeting with both the churches and the various community groups.
Revd Enid will live in Laxfield and her contact details are 01986 743093 or revenid4rivers@gmail.com
Our historic church, dedicated to St Nicholas, sits in a beautiful, tranquil setting on the edge of the village at the end of Church Lane.
Parts of the building date back to Norman times with later additions, particularly following the Reformation.
There are many interesting features to be seen inside the church and a detailed booklet is available to guide visitors keen to learn more.
A range of services and events are held in the church to meet the needs of the congregation and the community.
The church has a very modest, calm and welcoming atmosphere and is loved and cared for by a growing group of supporters.
We enjoy working together and supporting each other to provide for our individual and collective spiritual needs and sharing in the pleasure of living in the beautiful village of Bedfield.
A regular St Nicholas Church Newsletter is published with information about services and events. This information is also posted on or Friends of Bedfield Heritage WhatsApp Group.
We also have a WhatsApp group Prayers at St Nicholas where Chrissie posts a daily prayer. Both of these provide a way for everyone to stay in touch with Chrissie, the church and each other.

The annual Sponsored Ride and Stride is a national event, and every second Saturday in September, cyclists and walkers all round the country are out making money for their local county Churches Trust.
The idea started in Aldeburgh in Suffolk 40 years ago, and consistently Suffolk has headed the table of funds raised. The Ride and Stride is the main source of income to Suffolk Historic Churches Trust to enable it to make grants to churches and chapels of all denominations towards repair and restoration costs.
Ride and Stride is run entirely by volunteers and is inter-denominational, with participants sponsored for each place of worship visited between 9am and 5pm on Ride and Stride Day or with a donation, regardless of the number of churches visited.
The money raised by each cyclist or walker is shared equally between the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust and the church nominated by the participant.
As important as the participants are, so are the many volunteers who give up the day to man the churches and chapels and sign in the cyclists and walkers as they arrive. Hundreds of places of worship are manned during the day and that takes quite a team of volunteers! It is a real community effort that is the lifeblood of the Trust.
If you would like to take part, ask your church's organiser.
